What is pH?

The Broad Range pH Test is designed to measure water pH levels within the range of 6 to 9, covering the values most commonly observed in ponds. This test offers improved precision, allowing for 0.5 unit determination to ensure accurate monitoring.

What is the Ideal pH Level?

There is no single correct pH level, as different fish species thrive in different ranges. However, a pH level between 7 and 8 is generally ideal for most fish, with some exceptions. When purchasing new fish, always ask your aquatic retailer about the specific water requirements for your fish species.

What to Do if the pH Level is Incorrect?

• Adjust the pH level gradually to avoid shocking the fish. Limit changes to 0.5 pH units every 2 days.
• For a dangerously high or low pH, consider substantial water changes if your tap water has a suitable pH level.
• Check the KH (carbonate hardness) of the pond, as low KH can lead to unstable pH levels.
• Use pH adjusters like KH – Buffer Up to increase pH levels caused by soft or aged water.
• For fish that require soft, acidic water, use bogwood to gently lower the pH and soften the water.

How to Use the Broad Range pH Test Kit

1. Ensure the test tube is clean.
2. Collect a 5ml water sample in the test tube.
3. Add 5 drops of the pH reagent, replace the test tube cap, and shake thoroughly.
4. Compare the color of your sample to the provided color scale to determine the pH level.
